On climate change, look to the G6 plus China

Roland Paris

In Italy, G7 leaders announced that they are heading for a divorce on climate change.

What a difference a year makes. Compare the climate portions of last year's G7 summit declaration to this year's statement (below). The G6 and the Trump Administration are now sleeping in separate rooms while the US looks for an apartment.

The real G7 on climate change today is the G6 plus China, a flawed suitor, but at least one who is behaving like a responsible adult on this issue. It's certainly not a love match, but there's a lot to be said for a partner who's willing to take care of the kids.
